We all got a gift from the MTA this year. Countdown clocks (formally known as annunciators) have now been installed in most subway stations on the Broadway line (#1, #2, #3 trains). Remember when we used to call it the "Seventh Ave. IRT?" It's so much safer to read the sign showing the upcoming arrival of the next train, rather than lean out over the tracks to peer down the tunnel for a hint of a light. Progress !!!

Well, I was also reminded the other day that I'm one of the few people who still refers to the A,B,C,D, etc. as the "Independent' , IND, line; anyone use BMT anymore? I know it's not UWS focused, but here's a great NYC website, especially for lifetime New Yorkers,
Forgotten NY, http://www.forgotten-ny.com/ .
See: Suways & Trains, http://www.forgotten-ny.com/SUBWAYS/Subways%20homepage/subways.html
and if you ever lived anywhere else,
see: Neighborhoods, http://www.forgotten-ny.com/NEIGHBORHOODS/neighborhoodhomepage/neighborhoods.html
When you're just tired of TV, radio and email, browse some of the other links. They're fun.
